James Madison Program

The James Madison Program is a research and educational organization at Princeton University focused on examining the principles of liberty, individual rights, and good governance. Named after the fourth U.S. president, it promotes academic inquiry into politics, philosophy, and social issues that influence freedom and democratic societies. Through lectures, fellowships, and publications, the program encourages thoughtful discussion and deep understanding of foundational ideas that shape American democracy and Western liberal tradition. Its goal is to foster informed citizens and leaders committed to constitutional principles and moral responsibility.
