James III of Scotland

James III of Scotland, who reigned from 1460 to 1488, was the son of James II. His rule was marked by tension between the monarchy and the nobility, leading to his unpopularity among certain factions. He sought to strengthen royal power but faced challenges due to his preference for a court dominated by his favorites, which alienated traditional nobility. His reign also saw conflicts with England and internal strife. Ultimately, he was defeated in battle by rebel forces led by his son, the future James IV, and died shortly afterward, leaving a complex legacy in Scottish history.
