James Chaney

James Chaney was an African American civil rights activist and volunteer who fought for racial equality during the 1960s. He participated in efforts to register Black voters and challenge segregation in Mississippi. Tragically, in 1964, he was kidnapped and murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan along with two other activists, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner. Their deaths drew national attention to the brutal resistance to civil rights. Chaney's courage and sacrifice became symbols of the fight for justice and equal rights in the United States.
