James Caird

The James Caird is a lifeboat famously used by Sir Ernest Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica in 1916. After their ship, the Endurance, was trapped and crushed by ice, Shackleton and five companions sailed the small, sturdy boat across treacherous icy seas to reach help. The journey of about 700 miles from the Antarctic island of South Georgia to a whaling station is considered one of the greatest feats of navigation and survival. Today, the James Caird is a symbol of endurance and leadership in extreme conditions, and its historic significance is preserved in museums and literature.
