Jamaican Language Unit
The Jamaican Language Unit (JLU) is an organization dedicated to studying and promoting Jamaica’s linguistic diversity, including its dialects and standard language. It works to understand how language reflects Jamaican culture, history, and identity. The JLU also supports research, language development, and education to preserve Jamaica’s linguistic heritage while encouraging effective communication in various contexts. Its efforts help maintain the richness of Jamaican language forms, including the widely spoken local dialect, Patois, alongside Standard English.
