Jamaica Slave Rebellion (1831)

The Jamaica Slave Rebellion of 1831 was a major uprising by enslaved Africans and Maroons against British colonial rule and the brutal plantation system. Sparked by harsh conditions and a desire for freedom, thousands of enslaved people in western Jamaica organized attacks on plantations. Although the rebellion was eventually suppressed, it highlighted the widespread desire for emancipation and increased pressure on Britain to end slavery. The uprising significantly contributed to the abolition movement, leading to the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, which freed all enslaved people in the British Empire.
