JAK2 (Janus kinase 2)

JAK2 (Janus kinase 2) is a protein found inside certain cells, especially in bone marrow. It plays a key role in signaling pathways that control blood cell production by transmitting messages from growth factors to the cell's nucleus. When functioning normally, JAK2 helps regulate the production of healthy blood cells. However, mutations in the JAK2 gene can cause it to become overactive, leading to excessive blood cell production, which is associated with disorders like polycythemia vera and other myeloproliferative neoplasms. Understanding JAK2 is important for diagnosing and treating these blood-related conditions.
