Jaish al-Islam

Jaish al-Islam, meaning "Army of Islam," was a Syrian rebel group formed in 2013 during the Syrian Civil War. It aimed to oppose the Assad government and operated mainly in eastern Ghouta and surrounding areas. The group united several factions to create a more coordinated military effort, with a mix of Islamist and nationalist ideologies. While initially focused on fighting Assad, Jaish al-Islam was also involved in the complex web of alliances and conflicts among various rebel groups and extremist organizations. It played a significant role in the Syrian conflict until its decline and eventual dissolution in 2019.
