Jacobite Loyalists
Jacobite Loyalists were individuals who supported the restoration of the Stuart monarchy in Britain, particularly King James II and his descendants, after they were overthrown in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. They believed in the divine right of kings and opposed the constitutional changes limiting royal power. Their loyalty extended to resisting the rule of the ruling monarchs from the House of Hanover, perceived as illegitimate by them. The Jacobites were active particularly in Scotland, Ireland, and northern England, leading to a series of uprisings and conflicts in the late 17th and early 18th centuries aimed at reinstating the Stuarts.
