J. Paul Getty was a prominent American industrialist and philanthropist, best known as one of the world's richest men during the 20th century. Born in 1892, he made his fortune in the oil industry, founding the Getty Oil Company. Getty was also an avid art collector, eventually establishing the Getty Museum in Los Angeles to share his collection with the public.
