J. C. A. von Kries
J. C. A. von Kries was a German physiologist and neuroscientist known for his work on human vision and sensory perception. He proposed that the human visual system adapts to different lighting conditions by adjusting the sensitivity of the cone cells in the retina, which detect color. This concept, called "von Kries adaptation," explains how we perceive consistent colors regardless of changing illumination, by normalizing the response of individual color receptors. Essentially, his work helps us understand how our perception remains stable even when lighting varies, allowing us to see colors consistently in different environments.
