Izod test
The Izod test measures a material's resistance to breaking or cracking when hit with a sudden impact. A sample, usually shaped like a small bar, is fixed vertically in a holder. A pendulum swings down and strikes the top of the sample, and the height from which the pendulum swings determines the energy of impact. By observing whether the sample breaks and how much energy it absorbs, engineers assess the material's toughness and durability under sudden forces. This test helps determine how materials will perform in real-world situations involving impacts or shocks.
