Izanagi-no-Mikoto is a deity from Japanese mythology, regarded as one of the creators of Japan and the first male figure in Shinto beliefs. Together with his sister and wife, Izanami-no-Mikoto, he is credited with creating the islands of Japan and various gods and spirits. After the death of Izanami, Izanagi ventured into the underworld to retrieve her but ultimately returned alone. This journey symbolizes the cycle of life and death. Izanagi is also associated with purification rituals in Shinto, highlighting the importance of cleanliness and renewal in Japanese culture.
