IYRU (International Yacht Racing Union)

The International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU), established in 1907, was the global organization responsible for setting standards and rules for competitive sailing races. It ensured fair play by creating uniform regulations for yacht design, race procedures, and safety across different countries. The IYRU helped coordinate international sailing competitions and promoted the sport worldwide. In 1996, it was renamed the World Sailing, which continues to oversee the sport today. Essentially, the IYRU played a key role in professionalizing and standardizing competitive sailing on an international scale.
