Ixodidae

Ixodidae, commonly known as hard ticks, are a family of ticks characterized by a rigid, shield-like back. They are external parasites that feed on the blood of animals and humans. These ticks are important because they can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Hard ticks typically attach firmly to their hosts for several days to feed and have a slow, deliberate feeding process. They are found worldwide, especially in grassy, wooded areas. Controlling their presence and avoiding bites helps reduce the risk of tick-borne illnesses.
