ITER (fusion project)
ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is a major international project based in France aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a new and sustainable energy source. Fusion is the process that powers the sun, where hydrogen nuclei combine to create helium and release immense energy. ITER seeks to create conditions similar to those in the sun, using magnetic fields to confine and heat a plasma of hydrogen isotopes. If successful, ITER could pave the way for large-scale fusion energy production, offering a cleaner and virtually limitless energy source, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
