Italian Co-belligerents
The Italian Co-belligerents were Italian military forces that, during World War II, aligned with the Allies (Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union) after Italy switched sides in 1943. Previously, Italy was part of the Axis Powers under Mussolini, fighting alongside Germany and Japan. When Italy surrendered, certain Italian units continued fighting against their former Axis allies and contributed to the Allied war effort. They operated mainly in southern Italy and contributed to the final defeat of Axis forces in Italy while maintaining their national sovereignty and fighting for Italy's future.
