IT band syndrome
Iliotibial (IT) band syndrome is an overuse injury caused by irritation or inflammation of the iliotibial band, a thick tissue running along the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin. It often occurs in runners and cyclists, especially with repetitive movements or sudden increases in activity. Symptoms include pain on the outer part of the knee or thigh, typically worsening with activity and easing with rest. Treatment usually involves rest, stretching, strengthening exercises, and sometimes physical therapy. Addressing biomechanics or activity patterns can help prevent recurrence.
