ISS (Injury Severity Score)
The Injury Severity Score (ISS) is a medical tool used to assess the overall severity of injuries a person has sustained, especially in trauma cases. It considers injuries across different body regions—such as the head, chest, abdomen, and limbs—and assigns each a severity level. These scores are then combined to produce an overall score ranging from 1 (minor injury) to 75 (most severe). A higher ISS indicates more serious injuries that may require urgent treatment and suggest a higher risk of complications or mortality. It helps healthcare providers prioritize care and predict patient outcomes.
