Israeli governance
Israel's government is a parliamentary democracy, meaning citizens vote for representatives in the Knesset (parliament). The Knesset makes laws and sets policies, while the Prime Minister, chosen from the majority party or coalition, leads the government and implements laws. The President holds a mostly ceremonial role. Israel also has independent courts, including the Supreme Court, which interpret laws and protect rights. The system balances legislative, executive, and judicial powers, and coalition politics often influence decision-making. Governance reflects democratic principles, emphasizing representation, rule of law, and accountability within a diverse and complex society.
