Israel (Biblical figure)
Israel, a biblical patriarch, is traditionally regarded as the founding ancestor of the Israelites. According to the Bible, he was the grandson of Abraham and son of Isaac, whose name was changed from Jacob to Israel after wrestling with an angel. The name "Israel" means "struggles with God" or "prince with God." He is credited with fathering the twelve tribes of Israel, forming the foundation of the ancient Israelite nation. His story is central to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions, symbolizing faith, perseverance, and the covenant between God and His people.
