Isma'il Pasha

Isma'il Pasha was a prominent Egyptian ruler in the 19th century, serving as the Khedive (viceroy) of Egypt and Sudan from 1863 to 1879. He was a key figure in modernizing Egypt, helping to develop its infrastructure, economy, and education systems, often with substantial European influence and investment. His ambitious projects included expanding the Suez Canal, which connected Egypt to global trade routes. However, heavy borrowing and financial mismanagement led to economic difficulties, ultimately resulting in increased foreign control of Egypt. Isma'il Pasha is remembered for both his modernization efforts and the challenges that accompanied them.
