Islamist Militant Groups

Islamist militant groups are organizations that seek to promote their interpretation of Islam through political and often violent means. They believe that Islamic law, or Sharia, should govern all aspects of life and may use terrorism, armed conflict, or insurgency to achieve their goals. These groups often arise in contexts of political instability, conflict, or foreign intervention, and they can vary widely in ideology and objectives. Notable examples include Al-Qaeda and ISIS, which have sought to establish extreme forms of governance in specific regions while opposing Western influence and secular governments.
