Islamic State of Afghanistan

The Islamic State of Afghanistan (ISAF) was a government established in 1992 after the fall of the Soviet-backed Afghan communist regime. It was led by President Burhanuddin Rabbani and aimed to create a government based on Islamic principles. However, the country soon descended into civil war, with various factions vying for power. The ISAF government struggled to maintain control amid ongoing conflict, and by 1996, the Taliban took over Kabul, replacing it. The term "Islamic State of Afghanistan" is often associated with different periods of Afghan governance, but it mainly refers to the internationally recognized government from 1992-1996.
