Islamic Iberia

Islamic Iberia refers to the region of the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) during the period from 711 to 1492 when Muslim rulers, mostly the Moors, governed parts of the territory. This era, known as Al-Andalus, saw significant cultural, scientific, and architectural advancements, blending Islamic, Christian, and Jewish influences. It was marked by periods of cooperation and conflict, with diverse communities coexisting. The Moorish rule ended with the Reconquista, when Christian kingdoms reconquered the territory. Islamic Iberia is notable for its rich heritage, including cities like Córdoba and Granada, which remain symbols of this cross-cultural history.
