ISIS financed its operations through a mix of methods including kidnapping for ransom, selling stolen oil, taxes and extortion from local populations, smuggling antiquities, and illegal trade. They also received some funding from sympathizers and donors worldwide. These diverse revenue streams allowed them to sustain their militant activities, purchase weapons, and recruit members, despite international efforts to cut off their funding.
