ISIL (ISIS)

ISIL, also known as ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), is a militant extremist group that seeks to establish a strict Islamic caliphate across parts of the Middle East. They use violence and terrorism to enforce their interpretation of Islamic law, often targeting civilians, governments, and foreign interests. Originating as an offshoot of al-Qaeda, ISIS gained international attention in 2014 when they seized territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring a caliphate. Their actions have caused widespread instability, hundreds of thousands of deaths, and millions of refugees. Global efforts continue to combat and diminish their influence and territorial control.
