ISI (Indian Standards Institution)
The Indian Standards Institution (ISI) was established in 1947 to develop and promote quality standards for products and services in India. Its goal is to ensure safety, reliability, and consistency across various industries. Companies can get their products tested and certified by ISI to show they meet these standards, often indicated by the famous ISI mark on packaging. This helps consumers make informed choices and encourages manufacturers to maintain quality. In 1987, it was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which continues to oversee this certification process today.
