Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) is a legal mechanism that allows companies or investors to directly challenge a country's laws or actions if they believe these have negatively impacted their investments. Instead of going through domestic courts, investors can take disputes to international arbitration panels. ISDS aims to protect investors from unfair treatment and promote international investment, but it can also raise concerns about losing sovereign control over national regulations.
