ischemic tolerance
Ischemic tolerance is the brain’s ability to become more resistant to damage caused by a lack of blood flow (ischemia). When the brain experiences brief, controlled periods of reduced blood flow, it activates protective mechanisms that prepare it for future, more severe interruptions. This process helps limit brain injury and improves recovery if blood flow is later severely restricted, such as during a stroke. In essence, ischemic tolerance is the brain’s way of “training” itself to better withstand conditions that could cause harm.
