ischemic core
The ischemic core is the area of the brain that has experienced severe blood flow loss due to a stroke, leading to rapid and irreversible tissue damage. Without adequate blood supply, brain cells in this region die quickly. It’s the most damaged part of the brain during an ischemic stroke. Surrounding the core is the penumbra, which may still be salvageable if blood flow is restored promptly. Recognizing and treating the core quickly is crucial to reducing long-term brain damage and improving recovery outcomes.
