Irish Confederation

The Irish Confederation was a political organization formed in 1642 by Irish Catholics seeking greater autonomy during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. It aimed to defend Catholic rights and promote self-governance in Ireland amid tension with English rule. Operating primarily in Leinster and later across Ireland, it organized military resistance and negotiated with English authorities. The Confederation played a significant role in Irish history by asserting Irish interests during a turbulent period, spanning from 1642 until it was eventually dissolved after the Cromwellian conquest in 1653.
