Irena Sendler

Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker and nurse who courageously saved approximately 2,500 Jewish children during Nazi occupation in World War II. She infiltrated the Warsaw Ghetto, smuggling children out in ambulances, suitcases, or under false identities, and provided them with false papers and safe hiding places. Her bravery and ingenuity helped many escape the Holocaust’s horrors. Sendler’s actions, carried out at great personal risk, highlight remarkable compassion and resistance against tyranny, and she is celebrated as a heroic figure for risking her life to protect innocent children from persecution.
