Iran's 1979 Revolution

Iran’s 1979 Revolution was a popular movement that ended the monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was seen as authoritarian and overly dependent on Western influence. Widespread dissatisfaction with political repression, economic inequality, and cultural restrictions fueled protests. Led by religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini, the movement unified different groups seeking social justice and Islamic governance. The Shah was eventually forced to leave the country, and Khomeini returned from exile, establishing an Islamic Republic. This shift transformed Iran from a pro-Western autocracy into a theocratic state, significantly impacting regional politics and global relations.
