Ipilimumab (Yervoy)

Ipilimumab (Yervoy) is a medication used in cancer treatment, particularly for melanoma. It works by boosting the body's immune system, helping it recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively. Specifically, it blocks a protein called CTLA-4 that normally suppresses immune responses, allowing immune cells to stay active against cancer. While it can be effective, it may also cause side effects by increasing immune activity, sometimes leading to inflammation or autoimmunity. Ipilimumab is usually given by infusion in a healthcare setting and is often part of a combination therapy to improve outcomes in certain cancers.
