ion exchange process

Ion exchange is a process where unwanted ions in a liquid, such as water, are replaced with more desirable ions using a specialized material called an ion exchange resin. The resin contains charged sites that preferentially attract and hold specific ions, like calcium or magnesium, often responsible for water hardness. When water passes through the resin, the unwanted ions swap places with harmless or beneficial ions, effectively removing impurities. Once the resin becomes saturated, it can be regenerated by flushing it with a solution that restores its ability to exchange ions, ensuring continuous purification.
