Inventor of Nylon
Nylon was invented by Wallace Carothers and his team at DuPont in 1935. It’s a synthetic (man-made) polymer fiber created through a chemical process called polymerization, which links small molecules into long chains. Nylon was the first fully synthetic fiber, designed as a durable, silk-like material. Its invention revolutionized textiles and plastics, leading to the production of items like clothing, carpets, and industrial materials. Carothers's groundbreaking work in chemistry paved the way for many modern plastics and fibers we use today.
