Intravenous Regional Anesthesia (Bier Block)

Intravenous Regional Anesthesia, commonly known as a Bier Block, is a technique used to numb a limb for surgery or a procedure. It involves inserting a small tube (catheter) into a vein in the arm or leg. A tourniquet is then applied to block blood flow, trapping anesthetic medicine in the limb. This medicine numbs the nerves, providing pain relief. Once the area is numb, the procedure is performed. Afterward, the tourniquet is removed carefully, allowing blood flow to restore. This method provides effective local anesthesia with minimal impact on the rest of the body.
