intrauterine transfusion

Intrauterine transfusion is a medical procedure where blood is carefully and directly delivered to a fetus inside the uterus. It is typically done when the fetus has severe anemia (low red blood cell count) due to conditions like Rh disease or other blood disorders. Using ultrasound guidance, doctors insert a thin catheter through the mother's abdomen and into the umbilical vein in the placenta or fetal umbilical cord to administer compatible blood. This procedure helps improve the fetus's oxygen-carrying capacity, reduces symptoms of anemia, and can improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy and birth.
