Intramedullary tumors

Intramedullary tumors are growths that develop inside the spinal cord's central canal. Because they are located within the spinal cord itself, they can disrupt nerve signals, leading to symptoms such as weakness, numbness, or difficulty walking. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) and often require careful diagnosis with imaging like MRI. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the tumor when possible, sometimes combined with radiation or chemotherapy. Early detection and management are important to preserve as much neurological function as possible.
