Interstitium

The interstitium is a network of fluid-filled spaces and tissues that exist between cells and bodily structures, acting as a flexible support system. It functions as a dynamic highway for transporting fluids, nutrients, and waste products throughout the body, and also helps absorb shocks and maintain tissue integrity. Previously thought to be just dense connective tissue, recent research identified the interstitium as a distinct, interconnected network that plays a vital role in health and disease, including fluid regulation, immune response, and potentially contributing to the spread of certain illnesses.
