Interstitial Lung Disease Pathogenesis

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) refers to a group of disorders that cause inflammation and scarring in the lungs' interstitium, the tissue surrounding the air sacs. This scarring stiffens the lungs, making it difficult to breathe deeply and get enough oxygen into the bloodstream. ILD can result from long-term exposure to harmful substances, autoimmune diseases, or infections, and in many cases, the exact cause is unknown. Over time, the lung's ability to function properly diminishes, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath and a persistent cough. Early diagnosis and management are important to slow disease progression.
