Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is a group of lung conditions that cause scarring and inflammation of the tissue surrounding the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. This scarring makes it harder for oxygen to pass into the bloodstream, leading to symptoms like dry cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue. ILD can result from environmental exposures, autoimmune diseases, or unknown causes. Over time, the scarring may worsen, impairing lung function. While some forms are treatable or manageable, others can lead to progressive lung damage. Early diagnosis and management are important to improve quality of life and outcomes.
