Intersectionality Theory

Intersectionality Theory is the idea that people's experiences of oppression or privilege are shaped by multiple aspects of their identity—such as race, gender, class, and sexuality—interacting together. Instead of viewing each identity separately, intersectionality recognizes that these factors combine to create unique scenarios of advantage or disadvantage. For example, a Black woman may face different challenges than both Black men and white women because her experiences are influenced by both race and gender simultaneously. It helps us understand complex social issues by considering how various identities overlap and affect individuals’ lives.
