Interrill Erosion

Interrill erosion, also known as sheet erosion, occurs when water from rainfall or surface runoff flows uniformly over the land surface, gradually removing the topsoil layer. This process happens especially on gentle slopes or areas without adequate vegetation cover, where the surface is exposed. The flowing water loosens soil particles and carries them away in thin layers, leading to soil loss over time. Interrill erosion can reduce land fertility, affect plant growth, and contribute to sedimentation in waterways. Proper ground cover or erosion control methods are essential to minimize this type of erosion and protect soil health.
