International Zone of Tangier
The International Zone of Tangier was a special area in the city of Tangier, Morocco, established in the early 20th century. It was created through international agreements to allow multiple foreign countries to have control over parts of the city, making it a neutral zone. This arrangement aimed to facilitate trade, diplomacy, and stability while avoiding direct Moroccan sovereignty over these districts. The zone included foreign consulates, businesses, and residents, operating under international law rather than Moroccan laws. It existed until 1956, when Morocco gained full independence, and the zone was integrated into the nation's sovereign territory.
