International Yacht Racing Union

The International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) was the global organization responsible for overseeing and standardizing rules for competitive sailing and yacht racing. It ensured fair play, safety, and consistency across international regattas by developing uniform regulations and classifications for sailboats and racing events. The IYRU also promoted the sport worldwide, supporting the development of sailing techniques and organizing major competitions. In 1996, it was renamed World Sailing (formerly ISAF), continuing its mission to regulate and promote the sport of sailing internationally.
