International Woodworkers of America

The International Woodworkers of America (IWA) was a labor union representing workers in the wood products industry, including sawmills, logging, and furniture manufacturing. Founded in 1937, it aimed to improve working conditions, wages, and job security through collective bargaining and union activities. The IWA was part of the larger AFL-CIO federation and played a significant role in advocating for workers’ rights in North America, particularly in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. It disbanded in the late 1990s, with some members joining other unions or forming new associations, leaving a legacy of efforts to improve labor standards in the wood industry.
