International Triathlon Union (ITU)
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is the global governing body for the sport of triathlon, which combines swimming, cycling, and running into one race. Founded in 1989, the ITU sets the rules, organizes international competitions, and oversees athlete rankings and development programs. Its purpose is to promote and develop triathlon worldwide, ensuring fair competition and supporting the sport’s growth at all levels—from amateur to elite athletes. With members in many countries, the ITU also works to include triathlon in the Olympic Games and other major international events.
