International Refugee Organization

The International Refugee Organization (IRO) was a United Nations agency established in 1946 to help millions of Europeans displaced by World War II. Its main goals were to provide humanitarian aid, resettle refugees, and support their recovery and integration into new communities. The IRO coordinated efforts to deliver food, shelter, and medical care, and helped refugees find permanent homes worldwide. It operated until 1952, when its responsibilities were absorbed into other UN agencies like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
